STAR NURSERIES, SERIES 1-3 (2021)
Star Nurseries series 1 - 3 continues my exploration of imaginary deep space, an investigation that began in 2020 with the Sidewalk Galaxy. When viewed as a grid, each set of 25 monotypes represents an enlarged version of a 3” x 4” area deep within the original Galaxy image. For me, they evoke photographs that capture vast clouds of nascent stars.
Series 1 images are hand drawn trace monotypes. Series 2 are reverse trace monotypes, run through a relief press. Series 3 are ghost prints over which I’ve drawn offset repetitions of the original pattern.
